March 15, 2015 Final Stats
After numerous delays and cancellations due to inclement weather, the Siena Softball team was finally able to take the field Sunday against host UMBC in the UMBC Spring Classic. The Retrievers defeated the Saints 5-2, behind a complete game by pitcher Jessica Holte.
The Saints managed only three hits on the afternoon, all occurring in their two run third inning. Melanie Kalesse opened up the inning with a single and a steal of second base. Lauren Milligan would reach on an error and Paige Lloyd knocked Kalesse home with a single. A single from Stephanie Viggiano scored Milligan as the Saints would leave two runners on base in the inning.
UMBC scored four of their five runs in the first two innings and was led offensively by a two hit, two run performance by shortstop Bridget O'Malley. Holte struck out four batters in the win for the Retrievers.
Amanda Gatt drew the start and loss for the Saints pitching four innings, giving up five hits and four runs with five strikeouts.
The Saints are next in action Saturday in the Mount Saint Mary's against host Mount Saint Mary's at 1 p.m.
