March 22, 2015 Final Stats
The Siena Softball team finished off their sweep of Norfolk State Sunday, defeating the Spartans 7-4 in Norfolk. Nine different Saints recorded hit on the day, as the team combined for 26 runs over the three games in the series.
Siena scored a single run in the second inning on an RBI single by Stephanie Viggiano. They really opened up the scoring in the fifth inning though, scoring four runs in the inning. Alyssa Lancaster, Abby Carpenter, and Lauren Milligan recorded RBI's in the inning as the Saints opened up a 5-0 lead.
Norfolk State made things interesting in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs on a grand slam by Megan Przeslawski, cutting the lead to one. Siena would shut out the Spartans for the rest of the game, however, and added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to hold on for the victory.
Danielle Cacciola earned her first win of the season in the start, pitching 4.2 innings and striking out two. A day after picking up her first collegiate victory Lauren Butts earned her first collegiate save, pitching the final 2.1 innings, the first save of the season for the Saints.
Siena opens up conference play next weekend with a doubleheader against Manhattan Saturday and Saint Peter's Sunday.
