Siena Softball saw their five game winning streak snapped Monday at the hands of the Manhattan Jaspers, losing 4-3 and 3-1. The games were played Monday, after originally being scheduled to play Saturday.
In a game that was scoreless through the first five innings, Siena drew first blood in the sixth scoring three runs on two hits. Brooke Taylor scored on a fielding error for the first run, while Lauren Milligan knocked home two to round out the scoring for the inning.
The Jaspers would come back in the bottom of the sixth, however, scoring four runs in the bottom of the frame. The decisive run would be scored by Meredith Bryant, who was awarded home plate off an illegal pitch by Amanda Gatt.
Lauren Butts pitched 5.1 innings in the loss, striking out nine.
In the second game the Saints scored their lone run in the third inning on an Alyssa Lancaster sacrifice fly that scored Stephanie Viggiano. That run tied the game at 1, but Manhattan scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, the last runs for either team for the game.
Gatt pitched a complete game for the second consecutive day, striking out six in the loss.
The Saints' home opening double-header against Colgate scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled. Their home double-header against Hartford on Thursday is still scheduled to be played.
