Final Stats Game Two
Chris Amorosi spun a complete game, three-hit shutout to help Siena salvage the final game of its weekend four game series with NYIT 9-0 Sunday. The Saints dropped Sunday's first game 3-0.
Game 1 - NYIT 3, Siena 0
Siena's bats fell silent in a 3-0 loss to the Bears.
David Plotkin pitched a complete game and allowed no runs and just three hits while striking out seven for NYIT (7-13), which won its third straight game over the Saints.
All three NYIT runs were unearned. Siena (7-19) starter Matt Quintana pitched well and kept the Saints within striking range. Quintana allowed three unearned runs and seven hits in his six innings of work while striking out five.
NYIT scored single runs in the first, third and fifth innings.
Siena committed four errors, including two dropped foul balls. One of those drops came during the first at bat of the game. Joe Daru took advantage of his second chance with a sharp single up the middle, and came around to score what proved to be the winning run on Louis Mele's RBI single.
The top three men in the NYIT order - Daru, Josh Canabal and Mele - each had two hits.
Game 2 - Siena 9, NYIT 0
Amorosi was in complete command on the hill for the Saints. The sophomore southpaw struck out seven in his seven innings, and allowed just six men to reach base. Canabal reached on a throwing error in the first inning, and was the only NYIT player to reach third base all game.
Dan Lowndes singled to leadoff the third inning and scored the only run the Saints would need on Jordan Bishop's sacrifice fly.
The Saints blew the game wide open with an eight-run fifth - as many runs as the team had scored in any game all season. Siena batted around before a single out was recorded. Phil Madonna had an RBI single to left, and Alex Tuccio capped the rally with a two-run single through the right side on the first pitch reliever Michael Auriemmo threw.
Dan Swain had two of the Saints' six hits in the win.
Siena will look to pick up some more momentum when it hosts Cornell in a doubleheader Tuesday at 2 p.m.
