After losing the first game to Army West Point 6-2, the Siena Softball team saw their bid to win the second game cut short by darkness, ending the game in a 1-1 tie. The tie was the program's first since 2004.
The first game saw both teams strand a combined nine runners on base in leaving the first three innings scoreless. After the Black Knights brought two home in the fourth, Paige Lloyd answered in the bottom of the inning, hitting a two-run home run for her second in as many games and seventh of the season.
Army West Point would answer with two runs in the fifth and added two insurance runs in the seventh, to take the victory. Lauren Butts pitched a complete game striking out eight batters in the loss.
In game two the Saints got on the board first when Stephanie Viggiano scored on a wild pitch in the first inning. Both teams would go scoreless the next four innings, before the Black Knights scored the game tying run in the sixth on an RBI single by Kristen McPeek. The game would be called after the sixth inning due to darkness.
Amanda Gatt pitched a complete game striking out seven in the loss.
The tie was Siena Softball's first tie since April 20th, 2004, when they played Sacred Heart to a 3-3 eight inning stalemate in Fairfield. The Saints will have a chance to get back on the winning track against those same Pioneers when they travel to Fairfield Thursday for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
