Siena won't be heading back to the NCAA Tournament this season. Canisius turned the tables on the Saints with a doubleheader sweep on Championship Saturday (10-5 and 11-2) to earn the MAAC's automatic bid.

It was the third straight season the two teams have played for the MAAC title. Siena defeated Canisius twice last year to win the title.

Canisius pounded out 21 runs and 27 hits against the backend of Siena's pitching rotation, a strength coming into the Tournament. The Griffs won five straight elimination games after losing their tournament opener to Quinnipiac on Thursday.

Matt Quintana, Dan Swain and Joe Drpich represented Siena on the MAAC Tournament team. Quintana delivered one of the best performances in Siena's MAAC Tournament history with a three-hit shutout of Monmouth Wednesday. The senior came on to get the final two outs Saturday and exited to a standing ovation from the nearly 200 Siena fans who made the trip to Fishkill's Dutchess Stadium.

Game 1 - Canisius 10, Siena 5

Freshman J.P. Stevenson had a career-high nine strikeouts and the Griffs pounded out 15 hits in a 10-5 victory to setup the decisive championship game.

Canisius scored all 10 of its runs in the first four innings. All 10 came with two outs.

Siena scored a run in the seventh and rallied mildly in the ninth, scoring twice before Justin Esquerra lined into a game-ending double play.

Dan Swain had three of the Saints' 13 hits, including an RBI single in the ninth.

Anthony Massici was 3-for-4 to lead five Griffs with multi-hit games.

Stevenson allowed just two runs (one earned) in six strong innings. Brandon Bielecki allowed three runs over the final three innings to collect the save.

Ryan Bellomo gave up all five of his runs in the fourth inning before settling in to post four straight zeroes to keep Siena's bullpen fresh.

Game 2 - Canisius 11, Siena 2

MAAC Tournament MVP Connor Panas went 3-for-5 with six RBI and Canisius built another big lead on its way to the program's second conference championship (2013).

The Griffs scored the first nine runs of the game, and got another strong start from the backend of their rotation. Sophomore Zachary Sloan allowed just four hits and two runs in five innings. He struck out a career-high six men.

The Saints had their chances, placing runners on first and third with no outs in the second, and loading the bases with no outs in the fifth and sixth, but managed just two runs.

Freshman Dan Lowndes had two of the team's five hits. Bryan Goossens tossed two innings of scoreless relief for the Saints after not allowing a run over the final seven innings in his 5-4 complete game win over top-seed Rider Wednesday.

Canisius made the most of its opportunities. They scored eight of their 11 runs with two outs. Cyrus Senior started the scoring with a two-out, two run single in the second - one of two clutch hits on the day for the traditionally light-hitting centerfielder.

Siena has reached the title game in each of its last five MAAC Tournament appearances and in nine of 12 overall. The Saints will have to say goodbye to a highly successful senior class that includes: Chris Kearney, Rick Morales, Brian Fay, Quintana and captains Justin Esquerra and Ed Lewicki. All six were members of last year's historic team that captured the MAAC title and the program's first NCAA game.
