Siena Softball split their regular season finale against Iona Sunday, winning 8-0 and losing 7-5. In their game one win, all five seniors reached base safely contributing to their victory.
Game 1 - Siena 8, Iona 0 (F6)
After scoring a single run in the first inning on an RBI double by senior Paige Lloyd, the Saints offense really came alive in the second half of the game. Senior Lauren Milligan bunted home Paige Hess for the Saints in the fourth, one of her three RBI's in the game.
In the fifth Lloyd homered to right field, scoring two of her three RBI's in the game. The Saints closed the door on the Gaels in the sixth inning, scoring four runs in the inning. Milligan hit a two RBI double, senior Stephanie Viggiano hit an RBI single, and senior Chelsea Stout scored on the wild pitch to end the game in six.
Amanda Gatt pitched a dominant complete game, allowing only two hits and striking out four in the shut out.
Game 2 - Iona 7, Siena 5
Game two was a seesaw affair, with Siena answering almost every punch Iona threw at them. The Gaels struck first with a three run second inning. That was followed by a Saints three run third inning with Hess and Alyssa Lancaster picking up RBI's and Brooke Taylor scoring on an error.
The Gaels retook the lead with a two run fourth, and Siena came back in the bottom of the inning with Bridget Connors and senior Abby Carpenter RBI's. The Gaels would put it away for good in the seventh however, when Tori Danner hit a two run shot to give the Gaels the 7-5 victory.
Lauren Butts pitched a complete game striking out seven in the loss.
The Saints clinched the fourth seed in the MAAC tournament and will take on the number five seed Monmouth Hawks in the first round, Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Buffalo.
