Saints Move Up a Spot in ECAC Championships

Siena Swimming moved into fifth place today at the ECAC Championships, totaling 547 points in the first 15 events. Wagner College leads the women's competition with 736 points ahead of tomorrow's final day of competition.

Siena started off the second day of the championships with a fourth place finish (2:09.27) in the 200 backstroke by junior Fiona Dretzka. Sinead Guy also picked up points for the Saints with a 12th place finish (2:14.18) in the event.

Later in the morning session, junior Erica Askew scored a fourth place finish (2:26.01) in the 200 breaststroke for Siena and freshman Larissa Nanna added a tenth place finish (2:28.83) in the race.

The meet continued with the 200 butterfly, a very strong event for Siena with three top nine finishes. Elizabeth Fournier took second place (2:11.07), Julianna Sebastian finished fourth (2:12.90), and Maggie Fletcher placed ninth (2:18.39). The Saints moved up to third place from sixth after the race.

Fletcher, Katie Ludwicki, Fournier, and Dretzka teamed up for a fifth place finish (7:59.35) in the 800 medley relay to give Siena 50 more points in the meet, putting them in fourth place before the final diving event and break before the evening session.

Siena opened the second part of the day with a fifth place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.74) with a team of Alyssa Lewis, Maggie Davenport, Ludwicki, and Colleen McDonough.

Dretzka was back in the pool for the Saints in the next event, the 100 backstroke, posting a seventh place finish (59:48) which gave Siena 23 more points to stay in fourth place.

Siena's Askew finished eighth (1:08.13) in the 100 breaststroke with Nanna coming in 11th to keep the Saints in fourth with two events left in the day.

In the final two races of the evening session, Fournier came in tenth (59.80) to lead Siena in the 100 butterfly and Emma Rupert and Nanna finished sixth (4:45.34) and seventh (4:46.35) respectively in the 400 IM.

Siena wrapped up the day in fifth place, improving one slot from the first day of competition. The Saints trail fourth place Pace University by just two points. The ECAC Championships will conclude on Sunday, December 4, with the first race set for 10 a.m. The final day will feature the 400 medley relay, 500 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 200 IM, and 400 freestyle relay.
