Saints Drop 2016 Opener

Feb. 19, 2016

Final Stats

The George Mason University softball team scored in every inning, including two innings of five runs to help move past Siena 13-2. Sophomore Lauren Butts was credited with the loss for the Saints. She threw 2 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and seven runs, all earned. She also struck out two while facing 20 batters.

The Patriots wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard when they drew first blood in the top of the first inning on a throwing error by the shortstop Melanie Kalesse.

Siena would respond in the bottom of the second inning when they would take the lead on RBI singles by Brooke Taylor and Jess Vollmer. Taylor hit the ball up the middle and then advanced to second on the throw. Vollmer singled to the shortstop to put the Saints in front, 2-1.

In the next half inning, George Mason would break the game open with a five run top of the third to put the game away for the Patriots.

The Saints return to the diamond tomorrow for the first of two games, starting at 11:30 a.m. for a non-conference tilt against UMass-Lowell. Siena will then square off against Big East foe Providence at 4:30 p.m.
