The Siena Saints softball team opened the Felsberg Invitational in Miami with victories of 6-5 and 5-4 over Delaware and host Florida International, respectively.
In the first game of the day against Delaware, Siena was led by Chelsey Drew, who registered one run scored, two hits and three RBI's. Sammy Smaldone had two hits as well to lead the Saints.
Danielle Cacciola recorded the victory in game one tallying four runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out one in four innings. Lauren Butts came into the game in relief, tossing three innings to preserve the one run lead for Siena.
The Saints' offense was sparked by a five run third inning which included an RBI double by Smaldone, an RBI single by Madysen Cossack, a two RBI double to left by Drew and RBI hits from Alyssa Lancaster and Brooke Taylor.
Siena added a run in the fourth on Drew's RBI single to right field.
The Blue Hens went on a scoring run of their own when they scored three runs in the fourth inning. Siena added a run in the fourth inning as well and then Delaware scored a run late to make the final score gap to one.
In the second game of the afternoon, the Saints played the Panthers of FIU in which Siena won 5-4. Butts recorded the win for the Siena after throwing a complete game, allowing four runs on eight hits.
A two run top of the fifth fueled the Saints on an RBI single from Cossack and on Lancaster's single to center.
Siena (4-3) play the second day of the Felsberg Invitational on Saturday when they battle Central Connecticut and Delaware at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.
