Central Connecticut Box Score | Delaware Box Score
After sweeping Delaware and FIU Friday, Siena softball started Saturday right where they left off: with a win. The Saints defeated Central Connecticut 3-2 but fell to Delaware by a final of 7-2, the same team they had beaten 6-5 just one day ago.
Brooke Taylor anchored Siena's offense leading the team with three hits and one run scored. Sammy Smaldone added a hit and two RBI's in game one.
Lauren Butts pitched a complete game allowing two runs on five hits while striking out and walking six. The sophomore recorded her third win on the season.
Siena scored their runs early in this one. In the second, Smaldone smacked a double to left field that drove in Jazmin Ortiz and Taylor.
In the Saints' next half inning, Alyssa Lancaster grounded out second base which drove in Megan McNamara to make the score 3-0.
However, the Blue Devils would make a comeback. In the top of the seventh, Alexis Debrosse singled to right that scored Carli Shaw to cut the lead to just two. Central Connecticut was not done yet. Kaitlin Paterson singled through the left side. The ball was hit deep enough to score Katie Schmidt to cut the deficit to just one.
The comeback bid came up just short as the Central Connecticut had runners on second and third when Tori Constantin struck out swinging to end the game.
In game two, Siena suffered a 7-2 setback to Delaware. Melanie Kalesse and Paige Hess each registered two hits to lead the Saints in the category.
Antonia Edwards threw a complete game, allowing seven runs on 11 hits. The senior struck out three and walked five facing 40 batters.
The Blue Hens did most of their damage in the second inning in which the team scored four runs. They would then add single tallies in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to the eventual final score.
The Saints scored their first run of the game after Loryn DeFalco reached on a fielding error by the centerfielder. The mishandle by the centerfielder allowed Lancaster to score.
Siena added its final run of the game on an RBI single by Madysen Cossack that drove in Kalesse.
The Saints close out the Felsberg Invitational Sunday when the team plays host FIU at 12:30 p.m.
