The Siena softball team closed out play at the FIU Felsberg Invitational in Miami Sunday with a 6-1 loss to host Florida International. Siena registered four hits in the game, all four of which came from different players. Melanie Kalesse, Chelsey Drew, Jess Vollmer and Jazmin Ortiz each recorded a hit.
Danielle Cacciola got the start in the circle for the Saints. She went three innings, allowing two runs on four hits. The junior also tallied one walk and one strikeout. Lauren Butts finished the game in relief.
The Panthers jumped on the scoreboard early, building a two run advantage in the second on a home run from Aleim Lopez. FIU padded their lead in the fifth inning, as they added four more runs.
Siena got in the score column in the sixth after Sammy Smaldone reached on a fielding error by the first baseman. The miscue allowed Sarah Ho to score.
The Saints will next play March 5th and 6th in the Buccaneer Classic hosted by East Tennessee.
