LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Niagara erupted for six runs on six hits in the fourth inning to win the rubber game and take the series from Siena Baseball 8-2 on Easter Sunday at Siena Field. The Purple Eagles pounded out 17 hits to capture the regular season series between the programs for the first time since 2010.
All nine Niagara (6-18-1, 2-1) batters reached base safely, including eight who registered hits. Six Purple Eagles recorded multi-hit performances, and all but one member of the Starting Nine scored.
Seven Saints (4-15, 1-2) tallied single hits and Jordan Bishop and Dan Lowndes paced the offense with each player reaching base safely three times.
Niagara opened the scoring with a run on three hits off Siena starter Chris Amorosi in the second and then broke the game open in the fourth. The Purple Eagles batted around, sending 11 men to the plate in the frame. Mark Meisner, who went 4-5 at the dish for Niagara, recorded two of his hits in the inning.
Siena got on the board with single runs in both the seventh and eighth innings on and RBI groundout by Bishop and a run-scoring single from Jordan Folgers respectively. The Saints put together their best threat to rally in the eighth, but left the bases loaded. Siena stranded 11 men on base overall.
The Saints will look to bounce back when they open a busy week which features six games Tuesday with a 3 p.m. first pitch at Army West Point.
