Game 2 Box Score

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- Brown swept Siena Baseball in a midweek non-conference doubleheader at Siena Field Wednesday. The Bears scored eight runs in the final inning to take the opener 10-2 and held on to defeat the Saints again 7-5 in the nightcap.

Game 1: Brown 10, Siena 2
Brown (6-10) exploded for eight runs in the final inning to capture the first of two scheduled seven-inning contests. The Bears sent 12 men to the plate in the decisive frame and strung together seven hits -- six of which were singles -- to break what had been a 2-2 tie entering the inning.

Josh Huntley provided the only extra base hit in the inning with a two-run double for Brown and Marc Sredojevic added a two-run single. Huntley and Jake Levine each finished with three of the Bears' 16 hits.

Each team scored twice in the first inning on the strength of two-run homers. Starting pitcher Kevin Guthrie went yard to help his own cause in the top of the inning for Brown, while Joe Drpich responded with a 2-run blast of his own to knot the score in the bottom of the frame for Siena (5-17).

JJ Sleipka hurled five shutout innings in relief to pick up with win for the Bears. Tom Sutera tossed four innings, allowing six hits and two runs in being saddled with the loss for the Saints.

Game 2: Brown 7, Siena 5
Brown jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the nightcap and held on late to complete the sweep.

The Saints put together a strong threat in the bottom of the fourth, but a potential three-run opposite field homerun by Dan Swain, initially called fair, was overturned following a lengthy discussion. Siena, which stranded 11 men in the seven-inning affair, had to settle for just one run in the frame.

Brown added a pair of key insurance runs in the sixth inning to extend its advantage to 7-2 on Guthrie's second home run of the doubleheader. The Saints would respond with three runs in the home half of the inning, scoring twice on wild pitches while adding another run on an RBI single by Drpich, but couldn't get any closer.

The Saints continue their six-game week Friday when they return to conference action for the start of a three-game MAAC set at Canisius. The series commences with doubleheader action beginning at noon.
