March 5, 2016 Final Stats
East Tennessee scored six runs in the fourth and added four more in the next inning to defeat Siena softball 10-4. Paige Hess, Sammy Smaldone and Brooke Taylor each tallied two hits for the Saints. Due to inclement weather, the second game of the day against Alabama A&M was cancelled.
Danielle Cacciola got the call in the circle on Saturday and she went 3 and two thirds innings, allowing six runs on ten hits while striking out and walking one. Antonia Edwards entered the game in relief and went the rest of the way, allowing four runs on five hits. She recorded one strikeout for Siena.
The Saints struck first when Taylor singled to right center and the hit drove in Chelsey Drew to give Siena the early 1-0 lead.
The Buccaneers took advantage in the fourth as they scored six runs on seven hits. ETSU scored runs on two Saints errors in the inning.
Siena answered the call with a four run inning of their own in the top of the fifth. The Saints cut into the lead when Smaldone singled to left center and the base hit drove in Jazmin Ortiz. Paige Hess would continue the rally when she singled to center to score Jess Vollmer. The last run of the inning came when Madysen Cossack reached on a fielder's choice and the hit allowed Melanie Kalesse to score.
ETSU added four runs to their lead in the top of the fifth, tallying four runs in the inning.
The Saints will be back in action Sunday where they are set to square off against Morehead State and ETSU at 10:30 a.m. and noon, respectively.
