The Siena softball team fought out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh to defeat host institution East Tennessee by a final of 3-2. Earlier in the day, the Saints fell to Morehead State 9-1.
In the game against Morehead State, Hess tallied three hits to lead the Saints. Drew, Lancaster and Taylor had hits for Siena in the loss. The Saints scored their lone run of the contest on an RBI double to right center.
In Siena's win, the Saints were led by Buccaneer Classic All Tournament Team selection Paige Hess and Chelsey Drew, each recording two hits apiece. Lauren Butts pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on ten hits. The sophomore walked two and struck out four to record her fourth win of the 2016 campaign.
Siena scored first when in the second inning when Jess Vollmer singled up the middle to drive in Madysen Cossack to give the Saints the early 1-0 advantage.
The Buccaneers would tie the game in the fourth on a fielders' choice hit from Mykeyah Johnson that scored Samantha Carpenter. ETSU took the lead later in the frame on a single up the middle by Bethany Cowart.
However, Siena responded in the sixth with two runs of their own. Drew drove in a run with an RBI single and Alyssa Lancaster had a sacrifice fly to center in which scored Hess. The Bucs were unable to score in the final innings, giving Siena their sixth victory of the season.
The Saints will next travel to Baltimore, Md. to play in the UMBC Spring Classic March 18th-20th.
