LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.-The Quinnipiac softball team took two games from Siena on Saturday in conference action. The Bobcats took game one by a final of 6-2 and then Siena stumbled in the nightcap, 3-0. In the game two defeat sophomore Lauren Butts became the six player in program history to record 200 strikeouts.
Game One-Quinnipiac 6, Siena 2
The Saints and Bobcats traded runs to open the scoring in the second inning. Chelsey Drew scored Siena's lone run of the frame on a wild pitch.
In the next half inning Quinnipiac broke the game open, scoring five runs on four hits and an error. The Bobcats closed out the scoring in the inning with a 2 RBI single to left by Sarah Heimbach. There was no more scoring in the contest after the third inning.
The Saints added one more tally to the scoreboard Drew's grounder to the shortstop. The hit drove in Jess Vollmer. Sammy Smaldone and Madysen Cossack were tied for the team lead in game one with two hits apiece.
Game Two-Quinnipiac 3, Siena 0
Game two featured one inning with runs scored as Quinnipiac scored their three runs in the fifth. The first four innings of play saw just three hits combined from both teams.
The Bobcats plated their three runs in the home half of the fifth courtesy of a bases loaded walk to score Emily Czaja and an RBI single to center by Dani Edmands.
The Saints were limited to just three hits in the nightcap, one apiece from Vollmer, Drew and Lancaster.
With her seventh inning strikeout, Butts became just the sixth player in program history to record 200 K's. Antonia Edwards got the start in the circle. The senior recorded four and a third innings of action while allowing three runs on three hits while striking out three and walking three.
Siena continues their weekend homestand Sunday when they host Saint Peter's at noon and 2 p.m.
