Game Two Box Score
Sophomore Lauren Butts and junior Danielle Cacciola each tossed complete game gems in leading Siena Softball to a non-conference doubleheader sweep at Hartford. The Saints posted 3-1 and 7-0 victories respectively, as neither hurler allowed an earned run for Siena which has won four straight while outscoring their opponents by a 25-2 margin.
Sammy Smaldone and Brooke Taylor paced a balanced offense which pounded out 21 hits in the doubleheader sweep. Smaldone recorded five more hits out of the leadoff spot to raise her average to .373, while Taylor tallied four hits including three doubles.
Game One: Siena 3, Hartford 1
Butts allowed just an unearned run and scattered five hits over seven strong innings in the circle to pitch Siena (19-14) to the Game One victory. Smaldone, Taylor, Loryn DeFalco and Claire McNamara each recorded two hits apiece to pace the offense.
Paige Hess opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first and after Hartford (5-33) rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the third, the Saints reclaimed the lead for good in the fourth. Smaldone and McNamara tallied back-to-back RBI singles from atop the batting order to put Siena back in front.
Game Two: Siena 7, Hartford 0
Cacciola tossed a two-hitter to record her second complete game shutout of the season and the offense provided more than enough run support as the Saints cruised to the sweep.
Siena scored in five of the seven innings and were paced once again by Smaldone who added three more hits, while scoring twice. Taylor and Melanie Kalesse each added two hits and DeFalco contributed an early two-run double to send the Saints well on their way to the win.
Siena returns to action Saturday when they head to Rider for conference doubleheader action beginning at 2 p.m. in Lawrenceville, N.J.
