Monmouth rallied from eight runs down in game one to defeat Siena 10-9 in eight innings. The Hawks took game two 8-2 to sweep the doubleheader from the Saints. Brooke Taylor went 4-4 with two RBI and one run scored to lead Siena in game one. Chelsey Drew paced the offense in game two with a hit and two RBI.
Game One-Monmouth 10, Siena 9 (8)
Siena took an eight run lead through the first four innings. The Saints got on the board in the first with three tallies in the initial frame. Drew got the scoring started with a two RBI double to center. Madysen Cossack added to the scoring in the inning with a single through the right side. The base knock scored Drew.
The Hawks recorded their first run of the contest in the third, but in the top of the fourth, Siena exploded for six runs. Allysa Lancaster got the big inning going with an RBI single to left to score Jess Vollmer. Later in the inning, Loryn DeFalco closed out the frame with a 2 RBI double to left to help the Saints extend their lead to 9-1.
The Monmouth rally began in the bottom of the fourth with a single tally. The Hawks would score seven runs over the next two frames to tie the game and send the contest to extras.
In the eighth, Nicole Wieczorek delivered the game-winning hit for Monmouth to give the home team the walk-off victory.
Lauren Butts was credited with the loss after the sophomore tossed the final two and two thirds innings. She allowed four runs on three hits while walking one.
Game Two-Monmouth 8, Siena 2
Siena started the second game the same way they began the first. They got on the board with two runs. Drew delivered the two tallies with a double to left center.
Monmouth would score in their half of the first with an RBI groundout to third base by Justene Reyes.
The Hawks would cut into the Saints' lead when they scored three runs in the fifth and then pulled away with four in the sixth.
Butts was credited with the loss after she got the start and gave up four runs on three hits while striking out two and walking one.
Siena (21-16, 6-6) looks to start a new win streak Tuesday when they host Sacred Heart at 3 and 5 p.m.
