April 24, 2016 Box Score
Siena Baseball scored the final seven runs to salvage the series and capture the finale with a 9-2 win at Delaware. Dan Swain homered and drove in three runs for the Saints.
Siena (13-25) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning. Swain set the tone from the get-go with his second leadoff home run of the season, and a double steal later in the frame brought home Fred Smart with the second run.
Delaware (24-16) got both runs back in the home half of the first, but that was all that the potent Blue Hens' offense could muster against the duo of Chris Amorosi and Bryan Goossens. Amorosi was solid through 5.2 innings to earn the win, and Goossens hurled 3.2 shutout innings allowing just one hit to record the save. Delaware had entered play averaging better than seven runs per game, while boasting a batting average in excess of .300.
Siena reclaimed the lead for good in the fifth, working four walks in the frame to plate a pair of runs. The Saints earned eight walks in the contest. Siena added an insurance run in the sixth and tallied two more scores in both the seventh and ninth innings to end the game with seven unanswered runs.
Brian Kelly and Patrick Ortland each recorded two of the Saints' 10 hits as Siena put 18 runners on base. The Saints were also aided on the defensive end by turning three double plays in earning an impressive non-conference road victory over a strong CAA squad in Delaware which boasts wins over Maryland (twice) and Virginia Tech this season.
The Saints return to the Capital Region Tuesday when they host NYIT for a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m.
