LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Soccer Head Coach Cesar Markovic has announced the addition of assistant coach Andrew Knight to the Saints' coaching staff. Additionally, Markovic has promoted Pere Bascu to the position of top assistant coach.

Knight brings three years of collegiate coaching experience with him to Loudonville. His primary assignment will be to work with Siena's goalkeepers as well as recruiting.

"Andrew is a local coach who knows the area well and brings a lot of energy to the program," said Markovic. "He brings good collegiate experience with him and I'm happy to have a local coach that came up through the area ranks on our staff."

Knight joins the Saints following a successful two-year stint as the top assistant coach at Division III SUNY Potsdam. Knight helped guide the Bears to a school record 10 wins last season, after tying the program record for victories with nine in his first year in 2014. Knight worked extensively with the goalkeepers for a Bears' squad which qualified for the SUNYAC Tournament in both of his seasons, and hosted the program's first-ever home playoff game in 2014.

Knight first broke into the collegiate coaching ranks in 2013 at Division III SUNY Plattsburgh. In his lone season with the program, the Cardinals posted a 15-6-1 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament after capturing the SUNYAC Tournament crown.

Knight has also served as the head coach of the FC Freeze U12 travel team the past two years. He was previously the head coach of the Bethlehem Premier U20 Soccer Club (2013-14), and an assistant coach for both the U18 (2012-13) and U16 (2011-12) squads.

A native of Chatham, New York, Knight graduated in 2009 with his B.A. in history from nearby Union College in Schenectady. Knight appeared in 35 matches (10 starts) at center back for the Dutchmen, which he helped lead to a 44-22-5 record over his four seasons. Knight was a Liberty League All-Academic Team selection, and the recipient of the Bryan T. Bakker '88 Memorial Award which is given annually to the individual with the highest ideal of sportsmanship and leadership.

Knight is currently pursuing his master's degree from SUNY Potsdam. He has an NSCAA State Goalkeeper Diploma (Level 1) and a USSF E License.

Bascu enters his third season on Markovic's staff. His primary responsibility in his new role will be recruiting as well as administration.

"I'm really happy to be able to promote from within," commented Markovic on the elevation of Bascu. "Pere knows the way we work and brings a very calm and inspiring demeanor."

Bascu has helped guide the Saints to 18 wins over his first two seasons with the program. Siena's 10 wins in 2014 were tied for the second most in program history, and last year the Saints won multiple MAAC Tournament matches for the first time ever.
