LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Cross Country opened up their 2016 season with a strong showing. The women swept to take first while the men took the top-two individual finishes and finished second as a team. This was the first home meet the Saints have hosted in over 20 years.
For the first meet of the season, the teams got prepared by just putting their singlets on and heading out on the course. Siena, who added seven women and eight men to the roster this season came out with many freshman showing what they have to offer.
The women got things started at the Colonie Town Park Season Opener. Siena had all top-five finishers and eight in the top-10. Sophomore, Sarah Forman came out with the winner when she finished the 4km in 15:09. She was followed by freshman, Camryn Johnson who made her collegiate debut.
Senior, Shannon Bauer and freshman, Carolyn Pellegrini both finished at 15:12, while freshman, Anya Schmitt rounded out the top-five as she finished in 15:13.
On the men's side, Nick Cornine came out as the victor with his 18:20 time in the 3.52m race. Paolo Fiore was close behind as he crossed the finish line at 18:21 to give Siena the top-two finishes for the men. Sophomore Andrew Canavan was the third Saint through the finish line as he finished sixth overall.
