Siena Softball opened play at the Amy S. Harrison Classic in Riverside, CA on Friday. The Saints were bested 10-2 in five innings by UTEP in the first game, before falling 13-0 in five innings to UC Riverside to end the day. Brooke Taylor hit her first home run of the season in game one and led Siena with two total hits on the day.
Game One: UTEP 10, Siena 2 (5)
Siena (0-9) fell behind early in game one, with the Miners plating three in the first inning and two more in the second to lead 5-0. The Saints cut the lead down to 5-2 in the top of the third on a two-run blast by Taylor, which scored Sarah Ho as well.
The Saints mustered just three total hits in the game, falling in five innings, 10-2. Paige Hess and Loryn DeFalco singled in the contest.
Game Two: UC Riverside 13, Siena 0
The Saints suffered another defeat Saturday afternoon to host school UC Riverside. The Highlanders blanked Siena 13-0. Taylor, Hess, and Madysen Cossack recorded hits in the game.
UC Riverside plated one run in the first inning before adding six runs in both the third and fourth innings to close out the win in five innings. Freshman Maddie McMahon got the start on the mound for the Saints allowing six earned runs in two and a third innings of work. Lauren Butts allowed six earned runs as well, recording the final two outs in the third inning.
Siena will continue the Amy S. Harrison Classic on Saturday, February 24 at 12 p.m. ET when the team faces Utah State. The Saints will close the tournament on Sunday, February 25 at 12 p.m. ET against UC Riverside.
