Siena Softball continued play at the Amy S. Harrison Classic in Riverside, CA on Saturday. The Saints were defeated 5-1 against the Utah State Aggies in the team's only game of the day. Jazmin Ortiz recorded the lone hit of the game for Siena.
Utah State (7-3) starting pitcher April Brown was dominant on the mound, throwing a complete game, allowing just one earned run on one hit in seven innings, recording six strikeouts.
Siena (0-10) used four pitchers in the contest, starting with freshman Brooke Hughes who allowed two runs in two innings of work. Danielle Cacciola took over in the third allowing two runs before Lauren Butts took the fourth and fifth innings on the mound, giving up just one run. Freshman Maddie McMahon finished the game strong on the mound with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
The Saints were able to muster just one hit in the game along with one run, both coming in the third. Sarah Ho led off with a walk, bringing Claire McNamara into the game to run. McNamara advanced to second on a wild pitch and eventually scored with two outs on an RBI single by Ortiz.Ortiz has four RBI this season.
Siena will conclude the Amy S. Harrison Classic on on Sunday, February 25 at 12 p.m. ET against UC Riverside. The Highlanders have taken two victories over the Saints this week.
