Siena Softball concluded play at the Amy S. Harrison Classic in Riverside, CA on Sunday against host school UC Riverside. The Saints lost 12-4 in five innings after the Highlanders put up 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. UC Riverside defeated the Saints in all three matchups this week. Madysen Cossack, Chelsey Drew, and Jess Vollmer drove in runs for the Saints.
Both teams were quiet offensively for the first three innings before Siena (0-11) put the first run of the game on the board in the top of the fourth after a walk by Cossack, a single by Loryn DeFalco, and an RBI single by Vollmer. The Highlanders took the lead 2-1 in the bottom half of the frame.
The Saints' offense retook the lead in the fifth inning. Brooke Taylor led off the frame with a single and Paige Hess had a base hit one batter later. Cossack added an RBI single that scored Taylor and Hess to make it a 4-2 game.
The Highlanders exploded for ten runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the game 12-4 in five innings. UC Riverside registered seven hits in the inning. Siena will now take a short break from action. The Saints will head to Wilmington, NC for the UNCW Tournament on March 10-12. Siena opens the tournament against Youngstown State on Friday, March 10 at 10 a.m.
