Siena Softball hosted an afternoon doubleheader against the CCSU Blue Devils on Tuesday. After falling 6-1 in the opening game, the Saints responded with a walk-off, come from behind, 2-1 victory to close the day. Brooke Taylor delivered the game-winning single in game two to give Siena the series split.

Game One: CCSU 6, Siena 1

The Saints (9-20, 5-1 MAAC) were limited to just two hits in game one by Blue Devils pitcher Sarah Ogilvie who went the distance for CCSU (8-18). Madysen Cossack registered an RBI double in the fourth to give Siena its only run of the opener.

Freshman pitcher Brooke Hughes got the start for the Saints and allowed four earned runs in five and two-thirds innings of work. Hughes recorded four strikeouts in the loss. The Blue Devils totaled six runs on ten hits, plating their first run in the fifth inning. CCSU added three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to take the win 6-1.

Game Two: Siena 2, CCSU 1

The Saints and Blue Devils were both quiet offensively in the second game of the doubleheader. CCSU opened the game with a run in the top of the first following a double, a stolen base, and a sacrifice fly. This would be the only run scored until the bottom of the seventh.

Siena began the bottom of the seventh trailing 1-0 with senior Chelsey Drew at the plate. Drew singled before back to back fielder's choices led to safe Siena players and the bases were loaded for Sarah Ho. Ho then singled to right field to bring home pinch runner Danielle Cacciola and tie the contest at 1-1.

After a double play on a lineout, Brooke Taylor came to the plate for the Saints with runners on the corners. Taylor laced a single into center field, scoring Loryn DeFalco and giving Siena a 2-1 victory.

Freshman starting pitcher Maddie McMahon notched her fourth win of the season in the complete game effort. McMahon allowed just two hits and one run, along with four strikeouts in the contest.

The Saints will head back on the road on Thursday, April 13 at 2 p.m. to play two against Cornell in Ithaca, New York.
