Siena Softball wrapped up the regular season on Monday at Niagara. The Saints dropped game one 3-2 to the Purple Eagles, but rebounded with a 3-1 win in the finale to earn the #2 seed in the MAAC Tournament. Siena finished with a 14-6 MAAC record, the most conference wins in a single season in school history. Madysen Cossack led Siena with 4 RBIs in the doubleheader.
Game One: Niagara 3, Siena 2
The Saints jumped out in front 2-0 in the top of the first in game one. Cossack hit an RBI double after a walk by Jazmin Ortiz and an infield single by Paige Hess.
The score remained 2-0 until the bottom of the fifth when the Purple Eagles scored three runs on five hits to take a 3-2 lead.
Siena had a chance in the seventh when Amanda Dodson led off the inning with a walk and Lauren Sabihon singled, but the Saints were unable to tie it up at Niagara took the win 3-2.
Junior pitcher Lauren Butts struck out nine in the complete game loss for Siena.
Game Two: Siena 3, Niagara 1
In the second game, freshman starter Maddie McMahon pitched a strong game for the win. McMahon allowed just one run on a solo home run by Orfano in the second.
Cossack provided the offense with two runs in on a home run in the third to take a 2-1 lead. Jess Vollmer singled and stole second to start the inning for Siena. The Saints also tacked one on in the fourth on an RBI double by Vollmer. Vollmer was 3-4 in the contest.
With the win, Siena clinched the number two seed in the MAAC Tournament and will play the winner of the #3 Marist/#6 Fairfield game at 9 a.m. on Thursday in New Rochelle, New York. Click here for more information on the MAAC Tournament.
