Soccer Squads Secure United Soccer Coaches Academic Honors

Programs Heralded For Achieving Team GPA’s in Excess of a 3.0

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Both Siena's Men's and Women's Soccer programs have been named 2017-18 United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award winners. Siena College was one of just 192 schools across all collegiate levels to have both of its soccer programs recognized for maintaining cumulative grade point averages of 3.0 or better during the 2017-18 academic year.

This marks the 16th consecutive year in which the Siena Women's Soccer program has won the award, while the men's soccer squad receives recognition for the sixth time in the past eight years.

The women's soccer team held a stellar 3.56 cumulative team GPA at the conclusion of the 2017-18 academic year, which was the second highest of all Siena Athletics programs. All 24 student athletes who comprised the 2017-18 squad maintained cumulative GPA's of 3.0 or higher, and six achieved a perfect 4.0 during the spring semester. The women's team also set program records with 22 MAAC Academic Honor Roll and 15 MAAC All-Academic Team honorees.

The men's soccer team amassed a strong 3.17 cumulative team GPA through the 2017-18 school year, and a total of three Saints achieved perfect 4.0's in the spring. The Saints boasted 12 MAAC Academic Honor Roll selections, and seven student athletes were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.

United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full school year. College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Service Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster.
