Box Score March 10, 2018 Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score
Siena Baseball and 23rd ranked Central Florida combined to score just three runs in doubleheader action as a result of a pair of pitchers duels in Orlando. Sophomore righthander Brendan White and junior southpaw Tommy Miller each tossed seven sensational innings for the Saints, but UCF walked off to take the opener 1-0 before also capturing the nightcap 2-0.
Game One: #23 UCF 1, Siena 0
Tyler Osik delivered the decisive two-out RBI triple in the bottom of the ninth inning as UCF (12-3) walked off in the opener. The Knights tallied three of their six hits in the final inning, with Osik chasing home Rylan Thomas from first base with the winning run.
White allowed just five baserunners over seven shutout innings in a masterful performance for Siena (0-13). He surrendered just three hits and struck out four without issuing a walk, and retired 12 of the final 14 batters he faced.
Despite their efforts, both White and UCF starter Chris Williams each received no-decisions. Williams went eight shutout innings allowing six hits while striking out six without issuing a walk.
Senior captain Phil Madonna accounted for two of the Saints' six hits while becoming the 56th member of the Siena Baseball 100 Hit Club.
Game Two: #23 UCF 2, Siena 0
UCF scratched across single runs in both the second and third innings to complete the doubleheader sweep. Dalton Wingo delivered an RBI double in the second, and Thomas recorded a sacrifice fly in the third to account for the scoring.
Miller scattered five hits and two runs (one earned) over seven strong innings. He struck out seven without issuing a walk, and threw 73 of his 108 pitches for strikes.
Thad Ward hurled seven shutout innings to earn the victory on the mound for the Knights, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking 10.
Junior Matt Hamel recorded two of the three hits for Siena, which came up just short in a pair of bids to upset UCF. The nationally ranked Knights have now won 11 straight, which includes a mid-week sweep of defending National Champion and unanimous No. 1 Florida earlier this week.
The Saints will look to salvage the series Sunday in the finale which has been moved up to an 11 a.m. first pitch.
