Kaitlin Buff tossed six shutout innings to lead Tournament host George Washington to a 4-0 shutout of Siena Softball in the Buff & Blue Challenge Championship Game in Washington, DC. Junior Madysen Cossack and sophomore Amanda Dodson each tallied two hits apiece for the Saints.
Buff scattered seven hits in improving to 6-0 in the circle for George Washington (20-7) which won its 11th straight overall, and improved to a perfect 13-0 at home.
Siena (3-11) had its chances throughout, but stranded nine base runners in being shutout for just the second time this season.
The Colonials opened the scoring with single runs in the second and third innings, on an RBI groundout by Rochelle Draper and a double by Jenna Cone, respectively. George Washington added a pair of key insurance tallies to round out the scoring in the fifth, on an RBI single from Elena Shelepak and a run-scoring fielder's choice off the bat of Morgan Rinehart.
Senior Lauren Butts, sophomore Brooke Hughes, and sophomore Maddie McMahon split duties in the circle for the Saints, and combined to allow just four hits.
Siena returns to action next weekend for four games at the Mount St. Mary's Tournament in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Play commences Saturday with matchups against host The Mount at 12 p.m. and Morgan State at 4 p.m.
