Wofford scored 11 unanswered runs over its final two at-bats to complete the series sweep and stun Siena Baseball 13-8 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Sophomore Jonathan Crimmin crushed a grand slam and junior Matt Hamel added a three-run homer for the Saints, which matched their season-high in scoring.
Siena (0-17) opened its biggest lead of the season at 8-2 heading into the seventh inning stretch, following Crimmin's go-ahead grand slam which sparked a five-run fifth, and Hamel's three-run shot in the top of the seventh.
But Wofford (14-6) pounded out 11 runs on 11 hits over its final two at-bats to complete the remarkable comeback. The Terriers batted around in sending 12 men to the plate in the seventh inning, while eight batters hit in the eighth for Wofford which won its eighth straight.
The Terriers tallied seven runs on the strength of seven hits to reclaim a 9-8 lead in the seventh. Wofford then added four key insurance runs, capped by a two-run double by Colin Davis to pull away in the eighth.
Six separate Terriers recorded multi-hit performances as part of a 15-hit barrage. Matt Ellmyer tossed the final 2.1 innings of relief for Wofford to close out the win.
The Saints worked a season-high seven walks while also setting a season-best with 16 baserunners. Hamel, junior Marcos Campos, and senior captain Phil Madonna each reached base safely three times apiece to pace the offense.
Meanwhile, righthander John Nolan threw 5.1 quality innings, allowing four hits and two runs before departing with a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth. He retired 16 of the final 19 batters he faced.
Siena returns to the Northeast for the first time in 2018 when they travel to ACC foe Boston College for a 3 p.m. first pitch Wednesday.
