April 7, 2018

Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

Paige Hess delivered Siena Softball's only hit of the game with a game-winning two-run single to secure the Saints a doubleheader split at defending MAAC Regular Season Champion Iona in New Rochelle, New York. The Gaels earned a 5-0 shutout victory in the opener, with Hess propelling the Saints to a 2-1 triumph in the nightcap.

Game One: Iona 5, Siena 0
Marnie Skinner went the distance in the circle to pitch Iona (11-14, 3-1) to the Game One win. She surrendered five hits and struck out five without issuing a walk in tossing the complete game shutout.

Meanwhile Jasmine Temple homered and Hailey Thompson added a two-run single during a decisive three-run fourth inning for the Gaels. Tori Danner and Courtney Miller contributed RBI singles in the fifth to round out the Iona scoring.

Isabelle DeChiaro and Patricia Kalesse tallied two hits apiece to lead Siena (7-15, 2-2) offensively. Lauren Butts closed things out with a pair of shutout innings, while surrendering just one hit and striking out four in the circle.

Game Two: Siena 2, Iona 1
Hess' two-run, opposite field fourth inning single to right center proved to be the difference in a tightly contested pitcher's duel as Siena earned a hard fought road split. The Saints' only hit of the game scored Jazmin Ortiz and Madysen Cossack.

Meanwhile, Butts carried over her momentum from Game One in the circle to outpitch Alana Evans. Butts went the first five innings, allowing three hits and one run while walking three and striking out three to record her third victory of the season. Maddie McMahon pitched the final two innings to earn the Saints' first save of the season.

The Gaels scored their lone run in the fourth on an RBI single from Ciarra DiGuilio. Evans went the distance in pitching the complete game one-hitter, to go along with five walks and nine strikeouts in suffering the tough luck loss.

Siena returns to the Capital Region to close out the weekend Sunday when the Saints host Manhattan in doubleheader action commencing at noon.
