LOUDONVILLE, NY -- Jazmin Ortiz smashed a walk-off home run to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning to propel Siena Softball to a doubleheader sweep of Manhattan at Siena Field. The Saints captured the opener 4-0 behind a complete game shutout from Lauren Butts, and the nightcap 3-2 in extra innings thanks to Ortiz's heroics.

Game One: Siena 4, Manhattan 0
Butts capped a sensational weekend vs. perennial MAAC contenders Iona and Manhattan (14-15, 0-4) with her fourth career complete game shutout and second this season. She surrendered just three hits and three walks while striking out a season-high eight batters, to move into sole possession of second place in program history with her 35th career victory in the circle.

Siena (9-15, 4-2) scored single runs in the second and third innings on an RBI single by Patricia Kalesse and a fielder's choice from Loryn DeFalco to stake an early lead. The Saints doubled their advantage with a pair of key insurance runs in the fifth, courtesy of an opposite field, two-run home run to left center off the bat of Madysen Cossack. Cossack collected a pair of hits and scored twice, while Amanda Dodson added two hits of her own to lead the offense.

Meanwhile, Butts retired seven of the final eight batters she faced to finish up the shutout with her second victory of a stellar weekend. In three games vs. the Gaels and Jaspers, Butts amassed a miniscule 0.50 ERA and .143 opponents' batting average against in 14 innings of work in allowing just seven hits and one earned run while striking out 15.

Game Two: Siena 3, Manhattan 2 (8)
Ortiz blasted Nicole Williams' 1-0 offering inside the left field foul pole to cap the doubleheader sweep, and enact a small measure of revenge against rival Manhattan. Entering the day, the Jaspers had captured seven of the previous nine meetings between the programs, and have ended Siena's seasons in the MAAC Tournament twice in the previous four years.

The Saints claimed an early 2-0 lead with a pair of second inning runs. Siena tallied five of its seven hits during the frame, and opened the scoring on RBI singles by Dodson and Lauren Sabihon.

Manhattan drew even with two runs of their own in the fourth. Rachael Mumma doubled to left center to drive in the first run, but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple on a nice relay from Kalesse off the throw in by Sabihon. That play would prove to be key, as the next batter Maddie Colombo went deep for what would be the game-tying home run instead of the go-ahead blast.

Brooke Hughes tossed four shutout innings of two-hit ball in relief with four strikeouts to earn the win.

Williams scattered seven hits and three runs while walking one and striking out three to suffer the defeat for the Jaspers which have dropped six straight following a strong start.

Winners of four of their last five, the Saints return to action Wednesday to host Atlantic Coast Conference foe Syracuse in doubleheader action beginning at 3 p.m. at Siena Field.
