Both Teams Held GPA’s Above 3.0 During the 2018-19 Academic Year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Both the Siena Men's & Women's Soccer programs were once again given team academic awards by the United Soccer Coaches for their academic excellence during the previous academic year, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.

Siena was one of just 255 schools across all collegiate levels to have both of its soccer programs recognized for maintaining grade point averages of 3.0 or better during the 2018-19 academic year.

This marks the 17th consecutive year in which the Siena Women's Soccer program has been given the award, while the men were honored for the seventh time in the last nine seasons.

The women posted a 3.45 cumulative GPA during the 2018-19 school year, finishing the season as one of six Siena athletic programs to hold above a 3.4. 23 of 26 members of the women's soccer team held a 3.0 GPA or better last year, while six held about a 3.8. The team boasted a program record-tying 15 representatives on the MAAC All-Academic team and saw 22 players make the MAAC Academic Honor Roll.

The men's squad led all male athletic programs in the department with a 3.36 cumulative GPA during the 2018-19 school year, with 21 of 26 athletes holding about a 3.0 GPA and four landing in Siena's 4.0 club. Nine Saints landed on the MAAC All-Academic Team, while 14 were placed on the MAAC Academic Honor Roll.

United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full school year. College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Service Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster.
