Now in his milestone 50th season at the helm of the Siena Baseball (9-23, 4-8) program, Rossi is the longest tenured head coach in NCAA Division I Baseball history, and the second longest active tenured college baseball coach at any level, trailing only Division II Bentley's Bob DeFelice who is in his 51st season. Rossi is third all-time in NCAA Baseball history in seasons coached, trailing only Division III coach Gordie Gillespie (59 seasons) and DeFelice. Rossi, who recently coached his 2,000th career game at Siena, is the winningest coach in both Siena College and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference history in any sport. Rossi broke the MAAC record for wins the last time Siena hosted Quinnipiac (15-20, 7-2) in Loudonville back in 2016.
Miller already holds Siena's all-time record for both strikeouts (234) and innings pitched (326.2), having surpassed Dave Pahucki '02 in both categories. Miller enters today tied with Pahucki for the program's career wins record with 23, while also standing second all-time with 51 starts entering today. This season, Miller ranks tied for second in the MAAC in innings pitched (58.2), and fourth in strikeouts (56). Meanwhile, projected Game Two starter
Brendan White leads the nation with five complete games, and is tops in the MAAC in both ERA (2.29) and innings pitched (59), and tied for second in strikeouts (62).
Offensively,
Zach Durfee (20 games),
Brian Kelly (18), and
Devan Kruzinski (13) put lengthy on-base streaks on the line today for the Saints which are in the midst of a span where they play 14 of 17 at home. Overall, Siena is looking to put an end to a four-game losing streak as well as a four-game conference slide. The Saints enter this weekend's series tied for seventh place in the MAAC Standings with Rider - whom Siena swept last month in New Jersey - and stand a game and a half back of sixth place Monmouth at the midway point of the 24-game conference slate. The top-six teams qualify for the MAAC Tournament to be held next month in Staten Island.
Meanwhile Quinnipiac sits in a tie with Manhattan atop the MAAC Standings entering this weekend. Projected to finish fourth according to the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Bobcats boasted a league-high four of the conference's 13 Preseason All-MAAC selections highlighted by 2019 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Liam Scarfariello.
Siena leads the all-time series with Quinnipiac 12-8, although the Bobcats captured three of four meetings last season including ending the Saints' MAAC Tournament run.
