Siena (15-29, 9-9) enters the penultimate weekend of the regular season holding down the No. 6 spot in the MAAC Standings. The Saints harbor a slim one-game lead over Monmouth and a two-game advantage over Niagara (13-29, 7-11) with just six conference games remaining for all contenders. Iona (6-12 in league play) and Rider (6-13) also remain within shouting distance. The top-six teams receive berths to the MAAC Tournament set to be held in two weeks in Staten Island.
Following non-conference action at Binghamton Wednesday, Siena continues a stretch where it plays 14 of 16 at home to close out its Connors Park slate. The Saints have gone 5-6 over the first 11 games of the 14-game stretch.
Only three teams - Presbyterian (18), Stetson (17), and UNLV (17) - have played in more one-run games this year than the 16 Siena has competed in. Overall, 24 of the Saints' 44 games this spring have been decided by two runs or less.
Siena's 79 victories over Niagara are the program's most vs. any opponent, and the Saints' .653 winning percentage is the squad's second best all-time vs. any MAAC foe (Saint Peter's - .778). Siena has captured 17 of the past 21 meetings between the programs in taking six of the past seven series dating back to 2011. The squads didn't play last year as part of the conference's double bye, with the Saints taking two of three in the last matchup between the teams in 2017 in Western New York.
Siena and Niagara will be teaming up throughout the weekend to participate in Go4theGoal's Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer campaign, and will be looking to raise money and awareness for kids with cancer being treated locally.
