STATEN ISLAND, NY – Members of Siena's men's & women's Indoor Track & Field squads took part in 11 different events to kick off competition in 2020 at the Great Dane Classic in Staten Island, NY, Saturday afternoon. The event was held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex and featured regional talent from all over the East Coast.
The event was headlined by four personal bests set by Saints runners, as well as several impressive times this early into the season.
Junior Monica Strain posed well in the women's one-mile run, taking 10th place individually with a time of 5:08.81. Classmate Regina Rosati followed up the performance with a top-10 finish of her own, taking eighth place individually in the women's 3000-meter race with a time of 10:21.17.
The women's 5000-meter run featured a pair of top-10 finishes from Siena runners, with Carissa Kahn (sixth, 18:18.96) and Mia Forster (10th, 18:57.30) each doing so.
Personal bests set on the men's side were highlighted by sophomore Ryan Holland, who placed third individually in the men's 1000 meter run with a mark of 2:37.83. Freshman Ryan Famiglietti made his collegiate debut in the event by placing seventh with a time of 2:41.26. Freshman Matthew Laframboise displayed a personal best time in the very next race, taking home ninth place in the men's one mile run with a time of 4:20.90.
Among other impressive results was sophomore Owen Walker taking fifth place in the 5000-meter run (15:37.16).
Siena will be back in action next weekend to continue its 2020 indoor track season, taking part in the Utica College Invitational on Saturday, January 18.
