LOUDONVILLE, NY – This week's MAAC Defensive Player of the Week added another accolade to his weekly roll, as men's lacrosse goalkeeper
Christopher Yanchoris was selected to the USILA Division I Team of the Week on Tuesday evening.
Yanchoris was brilliant with a 21-save, one goal-allowed effort in the cage as he helped Siena defeat the defending MAAC champions, Monmouth, on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 10-1. The game would be the first one-goal allowed game in Siena program history since May 1, 2009 when the Saints allowed just one goal to the Providence Friars in the first round of the MAAC Tournament. Yanchoris' 21 saves were a new season-high for the senior from Sykesville, Maryland.
The senior now ranks among the top goalies in the country in saves per game and save percentage, making 15.30 saves per game (3
rd in NCAA) while holding a .588 average (4
th in NCAA). Both stats rank second in the MAAC to St. Bonaventure's Brett Dobson.
The Saints return to action next Saturday, Apr. 9 at 12 p.m. from Hickey Field as the Green and Gold play host to the Manhattan Jaspers. The game will be the front end of a doubleheader with the Siena Women's game at 3 p.m.
