Another week and another collection of awards for the Siena Men's Lacrosse team.
The Saints earned two more Metro Atlantic Athletic Association (MAAC) weekly awards with
Vito DeBellis and
Logan Banek earning the MAAC Defensive and Co-Face Off Specialist of the Week recognition on Monday.
In a vote by the conference's sports information directors, DeBellis earned his third MAAC weekly award this season while Banek earned his 14
th career MAAC weekly award and third this season.
DeBellis, the senior goalkeeper from Yorktown Heights, NY earned both victories in net with 22 saves, a .595 saves percentage and a 7.3 goals-against average to be named conference's Defensive Player of the Week after Siena's 13-5 win against Canisius this past Saturday and 11-10 double overtime victory at Marist this past Wednesday. DeBellis ranks second in the MAAC in goals-against average (10.04), fourth in saves percentage (.510) and is ranked fourth in saves (103).
Banek, a sophomore faceoff specialist and native of New Hartford, NY, earned the Co-MAAC Face Off Specialist of the Week after winning 30 of 44 faceoffs (.682) with 21 ground balls. Banek ranks first in the MAAC in ground balls per game (7.50) and is also number one in faceoff percentage (.667) with 88 wins against just 44 losses. Ryan Grove of Sacred Heart was the other Co-Faceoff Specialist of the Week after winning 32 of 47 with 15 ground balls as the #19/#20 Pios defeated Manhattan 13-5 on Wednesday and Hofstra 15-13 on Saturday.
Siena (8-2, 4-0 MAAC) is now receiving votes in the latest USILA Coaches Media Poll and will return to the field Saturday, April 4 at 1 p.m. when it travels to New Rochelle, NY at Mazzella Field to take on Iona (2-11, 2-3 MAAC).
