Softball Announces Class of 2028

Saints Sign Six as Part of Incoming Recruiting Class

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Softball head coach Casey Bump announced six new signees to the program as part of its class of 2028 on Tuesday afternoon, in accordance with National Signing Day.
The Saints welcomed Gianna DiMeglio, Megan Klein, Lauren Melton, Valerie Pedersen, Jazlyn Small-Yu, and Ashlee Sweet to its roster beginning for the 2024-25 school year.

"We are really excited about this incoming group of student athletes," Bump said. "Not only have we continued to identify and sign strong athletes, they are also strong students. The expectation at Siena is that we will excel both on the field and in the classroom. That is the Siena way; We think we have done that."

Gianna DiMeglio | Infield | River Vale, New Jersey | Immaculate Heart Academy

A First Team All-League and Second Team All-Bergen County selection, DiMeglio also garnered Third Team New Jersey Non-Public A honors. She is a member of both the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, and Science National Honor Society, and has made the Distinguished Honor Roll.

Coach Bump on DiMeglio: "Gianna is a terrific athlete in this class who not only excels defensively, but she also has a very strong bat. She hits for power and average and is a very good situational hitter as well. She has the potential to become a middle of the order type, impact bat here at Siena. She also plays with great energy and will fit right into our team culture."

Megan Klein | Infield | Trevose, Pennsylvania | Bensalem HS

A 2023 Second Team All-State selection and named to the Trentonian's All-Area First Team at shortstop, Klein set her high school's freshman hit record, the single-season hits record as a sophomore, and eclipsed 100 hits as a junior. A four-year varsity starter in both softball and field hockey, she has earned All-Conference honors in field hockey as well.

Coach Bump on Klein: "Megan is a tremendous athlete who has the talent to play multiple positions. We have seen her excel at both middle infield positions, third base, outfield and even as a catcher. She brings a lot of speed and has a great arm.  Megan has the opportunity to become an impact player at Siena. The only question is: at what position?  We are excited to have her coming to Loudonville."

Lauren Melton | Outfield | Livermore, California | Granada HS

A Second Team All-League selection during her junior season, Melton was named her team's Defensive MVP during her freshman year. She is an NCS Scholar Athlete and has been a part of the Top Scholar 4.0+ Honor Roll throughout high school.

Coach Bump on Melton: "Lauren also brings speed and athleticism and can also play anywhere in the outfield. She hits from the left side and is a very tough out. She is an excellent baserunner who can steal and take extra bases and put pressure on opposing defenses. She is an exciting player to watch. We look forward to her joining us on campus."

Valerie Pedersen | Pitcher | Central Valley, New York | Monroe Woodbury HS

The Section IX Player of the Year. Pedersen has aided her high school team to three Section IX titles and the 2022 New York State Championship. She is a member of both the National Honor Society and French National Honor Society.

Coach Bump on Pedersen: "Valerie is a New York kid who we have been following for a couple of years. She is a very strong pitcher with spin, movement, and command but still has tremendous upside and will continue to grow and improve. She shows poise and leadership and has a good presence in the circle. I am looking forward to getting Valerie on campus so we can start working together."

Jazlyn Small-Yu | Outfield | Colchester, Connecticut | Bacon Academy

A two-time First Team All-Conference selection, Small-Yu was selected as her team's MVP in each of the previous two seasons.

Coach Bump on Small-Yu: "Jazlyn brings speed, athleticism and a strong arm to our outfield. She is a high energy player who has the speed necessary to play any outfield position. Jazlyn can hit gap to gap, play small ball and be disruptive on the basepaths. We look forward to getting her in Green and Gold."

Ashlee Sweet | Outfield | Escondido, California | San Pasqual HS

A multi-year first Team All-League selection, Sweet served as her high school varsity team's captain during her junior and senior seasons, and won the 2022 PGF 16U Platinum National Championship with her club team. She is a member of the National Honor Society and an Honor Roll student.

Coach Bump on Sweet: "A similar theme with Ashlee as our other outfield recruits: She is fast, she is athletic and she has a strong arm. Ashlee also brings a power bat to Loudonville who can become a middle of the lineup type of hitter.  We expect that she will hit for both average and for power. We are excited to get her here."

Siena continues to prepare for the 2024 season coming off of three straight MAAC postseason appearances under Coach Bump.
