LOUDONVILLE, NY – As the 2024 season draws closer, Siena Men's Lacrosse head coach
Liam Gleason announced the consensus choice from his players on who the next leaders of the Saints would be.
"Our team chose four captains for this season:
Jack Cavaioli,
Jack Erb,
Brian Mack and
Trevor Marsala," said Gleason.
"All four represent the core values and exemplify the culture we strive to create each year."
A senior midfielder out of Shoreham, NY, Erb was named to both the MAAC All-Academic Team as well as the College Sports Communicators (CSC) At-Large Academic All-District Team.
Appearing in 15 games, Erb made 13 starts in 2023 and registered big goals during the stretch run against Marist and at Manhattan.
Totaling five assists, he also compiled 21 ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
A senior defender from Port Jefferson Station, NY, Marsala reset the bar by becoming the program's all-time leader last season in caused turnovers with 64 and also became the first player in program history to be named to the ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) team.
Dubbed a Preseason All-MAAC defensive selection, Marsala made good on his projections by being named as an All-MAAC First Team selection at the conclusion of the season.
Marsala led the team and ranked second in the conference in caused turnovers with 30 and was fourth on the team in groundballs with 34.
Another senior defender, Mack hails from Manhasset, NY and showed out with a breakthrough campaign by making the All-MAAC Second Team.
Mack displayed his versatility by ranking fifth in the MAAC in caused turnovers with 27 and also secured 33 ground balls in a season in which he appeared in every game.
He also added three assists with two versus UMass-Lowell and another at Manhattan.
The fourth captain is also a senior whose hometown is Farmingdale, NY.
Cavaioli is a member of the MAAC All-Academic Team who appeared in all 16 games last season and notched eight goals and four assists.
Additionally, Cavaioli picked up 22 groundballs and caused three turnovers.
The Saints are coming off a season in which it went 9-7 and reached the MAAC Championship Game. Siena's postseason run included a 13-11 victory against #5 Sacred Heart and an 11-8 triumph over #1 Manhattan in the MAAC Semifinals in Riverdale, NY.
