Box Score EMMITSBURG, MD – Siena Softball's second road conference doubleheader and its first battle with new league foe Mount St. Mary's in over a decade was neither easy nor completed on Saturday at Our Lady of the Meadows Field in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The Mountaineers (25-13, 8-3) topped the Saints (29-13, 8-3), 2-1, in a tight opening game, while the nightcap was unable to be completed due to inclement weather.
Mount St. Mary's 2, Siena 1
Taking the road as part of a five-game road trip following an eight-game home stand, the teams entered a pitcher's duel which entered the fifth inning scoreless. After both teams stranded a combined ten runners on-base during the opening four innings including at least one per-frame, Siena finally broke through in the top of the fifth, with graduate student

The frame proved to be crooked for both teams, with The Mount using a pair of RBI singles to pull ahead for good in the bottom of the frame. Siena grounded into a double play in the sixth and went down in order in the seventh, with Mount St. Mary's owning an 8-6 hits advantage in the game.
Six different Saints recorded a hit in the game, with Fitzmaurice owning the lone RBI to move into sole possession of the tenth-most in a single season with 37 thus far. Redshirt-freshman
Alissa Eimont (9-4) suffered a loss in the circle for the first time in six starts with five strikeouts in complete fashion, while Mount's Avery Neuhart (9-3) struck out three in the complete game victory.

With the start of the doubleheader moved forward to attempt to avoid inclement weather, the Saints immediately struck first off another RBI double from Fitzmaurice. As a result of continuous lightning and eventual rain in the area, the game was suspended with two outs in the top of the fourth inning and a 2-0 Siena lead. The contest will need to be resumed and finished prior to the conclusion of the 2023 regular season.
Siena will look to stay near the top of the MAAC standings when it battles Rider in Lawrenceville, New Jersey at Noon and 2 PM on Sunday, April 23.
