Box Score 2 CAMBRIDGE, MA – Siena Water Polo ended a three-match weekend at the Harvard Invitational on a high note to get back to .500 on the season through three weekend. Following an 11-2 loss to #13 UC Davis, the Saints (5-5) collected their first-ever win over Santa Clara in a 13-9 decision at Blodgett Pool in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
#13 UC Davis 11, Siena 2
Facing off against the Aggies for the first time in program history and against their third ranked opponent this season, the Saints conceded the first four goals of the game and trailed, 7-1 at the half. UC Davis netted seven of eight goals in the second half of play, with freshman
Rebecca Currie scoring both goals for the Green and Gold. Senior
Caroline Behr recorded ten saves in-goal.
Siena 13, Santa Clara 9
The Saints took the pool in the afternoon and rebounded in the program's second straight year facing Santa Clara. Siena recorded four of the first five goals before Santa Clara brought the deficit to one goal at the end of the first period. Siena then netted six goals in a row to hold a 10-3 lead early in the second half, and survived despite giving up six of the final ten goals of the contest.
Freshman
Catherine Williamson led the way with four goals, while Currie added three more scores and sophomore
Parker Thomas netted a pair. Thomas also added three field blocks and a pair of steals, while Williamson drew a pair of exclusions. Freshman goalkeeper
Maggie Frye held sturdy in-goal with 18 saves – the most by a Siena goalkeeper in recent memory.
Siena will next head to California for five matches next weekend, beginning with a standalone game at #23 CSU Northridge on Thursday, February 29 at 6:30 PM EST.
