Lanigan named Men’s Lacrosse Assistant Coach

Coach Gleason welcomes former head coach of Russell Sage to Loudonville

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena College has appointed Ryan Lanigan as Men's Lacrosse assistant coach ahead of the 2025 season.

The former head coach of the Russell Sage Men's Lacrosse program comes to Loudonville after serving a six-year stint with the Gators, beginning the program from its infancy to helping transform it into a competitive squad.

"I am thrilled to welcome Ryan Lanigan to the Siena Lacrosse family!" said seventh-year Siena Men's Lacrosse head coach Liam Gleason.

"Ryan is a highly competitive and knowledgeable coach whose impact has already been felt. Having watched him build a program from the ground up, I know he brings invaluable experience and lessons that will greatly benefit our team. We look forward to the positive contributions he will make as we continue to grow and succeed."

Lanigan's teams won six games in each of the last three seasons, and his teams produced 10 All-Empire 8 Conference honors as well as many additional academic honors from College Sports Communicators (CSC), the Empire 8 Conference and Russell Sage College.

The former All-American at Lebanon Valley coached long-stick midfielder Joe Johnson to high acclaim as he received an honorable mention from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-American Team and was voted on as a First Time All-Empire 8 Conference selection. Johnson was the first in RSC's history from the men's lacrosse program to earn that distinction.

"I am honored to join the Siena College Lacrosse program as an assistant coach," Lanigan said. "Being in the area the past nine years, I have seen the growth the staff and players have made to put them in a position to consistently compete for a MAAC championship. I'm really excited to be in this position to help these student-athletes become the best versions of themselves on and off the field. Siena is a tremendous academic institution and with the addition of our new lacrosse facility, we have everything we need to be successful."

Lanigan has had a penchant for becoming the first to accomplish feats.

As a player, Lanigan became the first USILA All-American in the program's history after garnering a spot on the Third Team as a senior long-stick midfielder. To this day, he still holds the program record for most ground balls (356) and caused turnovers (208) and is ranked in the top-four in several Dutchmen single-season caused turnovers outputs.

Previously, Lanigan also served as a two-year assistant coach with Misericordia University in Dallas, PA where the Cougars reached the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2017 and went 7-0 in the Freedom Conference.

Prior to that position, Lanigan also spent one season as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator for Assumption College, setting the program record with nine victories and qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference playoffs for just the second time in the program's history.
