LOUDONVILLE, NY - Siena Men's Soccer will stand the test of another top-three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) matchup on home turf when the third-place Niagara Purple Eagles travel to Loudonville on Saturday, Oct. 18. Kickoff from Hickey Field is set for 3 p.m.
Siena will honor graduating members of the program
Christian Amaral,
Miguel Plaza,
Mario Navarro Perez, and
Eric Svensson with a brief ceremony during pregame warmups at 2:35 p.m. Additionally, the program will be holding its annual alumni match at 10 a.m. Saturday.
After having already faced the top team in the table last Saturday in Sacred Heart, the Saints will turn their attention to the team two points behind them one week following a 1-1 draw with the Pioneers with just four league matches remaining. Furthermore, beyond Niagara, the fourth-place team in the league, Fairfield, is separated by just three points from four others who are outside of the six-team playoff picture in what is shaping up to be an intense run down the stretch.
Having settled for three consecutive draws, the Saints (4-4-4, 3-0-3) have secured a point in seven straight matches entering Saturday's contest, with the team's last loss coming over one month ago on Sept. 14 at Xavier. With a record of 3-0-4 since its last loss, Siena has set a program record for the longest unbeaten streak, surpassing the previous mark of six set in 1995 (5-0-1) and last season (4-0-2).
Having secured another clean sheet in Wednesday's draw at Iona,
Bennet Glinder posted the 14th of his career, inching him closer to Greg Monroe's program record of 17. Also at 19 career victories, the junior looks to become just the fourth player in program history to reach 20, which would put him in a tie for third all-time in program history.
Niagara (6-4-1, 3-2-1) has enjoyed a stretch of three consecutive matches securing a point (2-0-1), as well as five over its last six (4-1-1). Reon Tezuka and Juan Cardona lead the Purple Eagles with nine points each, while Tezuka's four goals top the team, and Cardona's three are tied for second along with Niklas Kneller. Notably, Tezuka has found the back of the net in each of Niagara's previous two matches. In goal, Grant Wyles has played and started in nine matches, posting a 5-3-1 mark with a 1.79 goals-against average and the league's fifth-ranked save percentage (.758). Additionally, Wyles records the second most saves per match in the league with 5.56.
The Saints and Purple Eagles are set to meet for the 40th time ever, with Siena entering Saturday owning a 22-10-7 edge in the all-time series – including a record of 12-8-7 since the 2001 season. Although the programs have met six times since 2020-21, Saturday marks just the second to take place in Loudonville over that stretch (2022). Since the Saints went on a 7-0-1 run from 2013-19, the Purple Eagles have returned the favor as of late, with a 3-1-2 edge over the recent six matchups. Much to the tune of this season's cardiac Saints, the Green and Gold erased a two-goal second-half deficit to tie Niagara on the road in the most recent matchup last season, 3-3.

The Saints will have a week off following Niagara and will travel to Hamden, CT, on Saturday, Oct. 25, to take on Quinnipiac at 2 p.m.
