Lauren Weingart hit her fifth home run of the season while Courtney Brinkman and Jamie Piela combined for seven strong innings as Siena defeated Marist 4-2 in the nightcap of Saturday afternoon's doubleheader at Marist. In game one, the Red Foxes got out to an early lead and never let up as they dropped the Saints 7-2.
In game two, Weingart gave Siena (8-17, 3-3) a 2-1 lead in the fourth with a two-run home run but Marist (11-27, 4-4) came right back to tie it up on Melissa Giordano's RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.
The Saints answered back and took the lead back when Nastasha Powlowsky scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth and Weingart drove in Jenny McNulty for her third RBI of the game to give Siena a 4-2 lead.
Brinkman(4-5) tossed four innings, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) to pick up the victory. Jamie Piela pitched three innings of scoreless relief to get the save for the Saints.
Marist starter Caitlin Carpentier, gave up only three hits and two runs in four innings. Caitlin Schell (3-11) took the loss giving up two runs in three innings of relief.
Lindsey McKeever and Weingart each went 2-for-3 for Siena.
In the opener, Marist got the scoring started early on Jessica Green's RBI groundout in the bottom of the first and Lindsey Kinel pushed the lead to 5-0 with a two RBI double in the third.
Siena got on the board in the fourth when Piela knocked in Olivia Calcagnini with a single and Kristen Borsella scored on a wild pitch but that was all the runs the Saints would manage.
Kinel and Green each drove in two runs for the Red Foxes and Girodano went 3-for-4, finishing the day 5-for-8 with a double, a home run, two RBI and three runs scored.
Carpentier (7-12) picked up the win, tossing a complete game while allowing three hits and two runs and striking out 11.
Amanda Filippazzo (3-8) took the loss for the Saints in game one, allowing nine hits and seven runs (five earned) in four innings.
Siena will return to action Monday at 1 p.m. when they host Iona in MAAC play.
