Final Stats
Manhattan rallied to score five runs in the bottom of the sixth and drop Siena 7-5 in game one of Saturday's MAAC doubleheader at Riverdale. In game two, the Saints outhit the Lady Jaspers but committed five errors as Manhattan took the nightcap 3-2 to complete the sweep.
In the opener, Siena (10-21, 5-5) sophomore Courtney Brinkman hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth to take a 5-2 lead but Manhattan (13-23, 5-3) came right back in the bottom half to score five runs highlighted by Erika Sullivan's RBI single that broke a 5-5 tie and gave the Lady Jaspers the lead for good.
Jenny McNulty finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and freshman Nastasha Powlowsky hit her fourth home run of the season for the Saints.
Senior Jamie Piela allowed three runs (two earned) in an inning of relief to take the loss. Siena starter Amanda Filippazzo allowed five hits and four earned runs in five-plus innings of work.
Nicole Michel had two hits and Melissa Cascio hit a solo home run for Manhattan. Ashley Rampino gave up four hits and five runs in 5.1 innings as Erika Sullivan picked up the win with 1.2 innings of perfect relief.
In the back end of the doubleheader, Siena scored twice in the first when McNulty and Kristen Borsella scored on a throwing error by Michel to take an early 2-0 lead.
Manhattan scored once in the bottom of the first and tied it up in the second on Amanda Genovese's RBI.
Melissa Donnelly gave the Lady Jaspers the lead with a solo home run in the fifth and Erika Sullivan shut down the Saints in the final two innings, allowing just a Sara Gallacchi single to pick up her second victory of the day.
McNulty added two hits in game two and finished the day 4-for-7 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Courtney Brinkman took the loss for the Saints, tossing a complete game, allowing three run (one earned) as Siena committed five errors in the game.
Donnelly, Genovese and Rampino each drove in a run for Manhattan as Sullivan allowed two runs (zero earned) in the complete game victory.
The Saints return to action tomorrow as they try to get back above .500 in conference play when they visit Saint Peter's in Jersey City, N.J. for a MAAC doubleheader at 1 p.m.
