Final Stats
Marist scored four runs in the second inning, five in the third and five in the fourth to blow open the final game of a three-game MAAC series with archrival Siena Sunday in Loudonville. The Red Foxes won 16-5 and got four hits from Kyle Meyer, Brian McDonough and Bryce Nugent.
Meyer homered twice and drove in eight runs after going deep just once in Marist's first 40 games.
The Red Foxes chased Siena starter Zach Hartman with four runs on five hits in the second inning. Reliever Matt Moberg did not fare any better, surrendering five earned runs on four hits in one inning of work. Marist scored six runs off Siena's third pitcher of the day - rookie C.J. Sohl - and led 14-1 after three and half innings of play.
Siena's final two pitchers, Dan Pendleton and Ryan Poplawski pitched admirably to minimize the damage. Pendleton allowed just one run in 2.2 innings and struck out three. Poplawski did not give up any runs over the final two innings of the game.
Anthony Giansanti, Dan Paolini and Phil Cahill each had two hits for the Saints. Cahill drove in two runs with a fourth inning single up the middle.
In addition to Meyer, McDonough and Nugent, George Agostini, Ryan Gauck and Richard Curylo had multi-hit games for Marist. The Red Foxes had 20 hits on the day.
Siena's defense played its first error free game of the weekend in defeat.
B.J. Martin picked up the victory for Marist, tossing six innings of six-hit ball, allowing just two earned runs. Relievers Chad Gallagher and Jacob Wiley sacrificed two runs over the final third of the game which was played in three hours under perfect conditions.
Siena looks to get back on track Tuesday when it hosts UMass at 4 p.m.
