Final Stats
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena jumped on Iona early with three runs in the first inning and two each in the second and third and rode a solid start by pitcher Zach Hartman as the Saints won 11-7 Friday afternoon. The Saints churned out 14 hits, three home runs and stole eight bases.
Mike Fish led the offensive onslaught as he went 2-for-4 with four RBI and four stolen bases.
Hartman (1-4) earned his first win of the season, pitching 7.2 innings and allowing five runs (two earned) on eight hits. He struck out seven and walked two.
Iona's (6-27, 0-10) Matt Marley couldn't find his control and hit three batters and walked two others in the first two innings. The Saints pushed the envelope and converted three double-steals during those rallies.
Siena (16-22, 4-6) built an 11-2 lead through seven innings, but didn't finish strong and allowed Iona to close the gap.
Hartman cruised through the first seven innings, only allowing two runs on six hits. It appeared he would finish the eighth inning with minimal damage, but a wild pitch and a walk with two outs forced him from the game. Ryan Poplawski came in and allowed an RBI single before striking out Michael Chiarvallot to end the inning.
In the ninth inning, Poplawski retired the first two hitters on four pitches, but allowed an infield hit and surrendered a two-run home run by Andrew Passerelle.
Iona scored five runs on six hits in the final two innings.
Kevin Quaranto, William Cardona and Andrew Sawyer all homered for the Saints.
The Saints and Gaels finish the series with a doubleheader starting at noon tomorrow. The first game is slated for seven innings and the second will go nine.
