Game One Box Score

Game Two Box Score

Siena softball came into Saturday's home doubleheader looking for their first MAAC wins of 2011. Instead, the Saints saw two comeback bids fall short against Fairfield, falling 5-3 in the opener and 4-3 in a 12-inning heartbreaker to end the day.

Game one saw the Stags (16-13, 3-1 MAAC) jump out to a 4-0 lead with two runs in both the first and third innings. The Saints (11-18, 0-4 MAAC) scratched out a run in the third when Shannon Jones singled home Lindsey McKeever, but allowed a run in the top of the sixth to face a four-run deficit heading into the bottom of the inning.

The bottom of the sixth came and went, but Siena did not go down quietly in the last of the seventh. McKeever reached base on an error, and Jessika - Jo Sandrini walked to put the tying run on deck. After Samantha Ray's sacrifice fly put both runners in scoring position with two outs, Jones extended the inning with a two-RBI single that closed the gap to 5-3 and brought Taylor Guerin to the plate as the tying run. However, the freshman struck out looking to end the game.

The second game saw the Stags race out to a 1-0 lead in the first, and after Nastasha Powlowsky tied it in the second with an RBI single, Fairfield responded with two runs in the third for a 3-1 advantage. It stayed that way until the bottom of the sixth, when Mandy Ferro drove in Jones on a sacrifice fly and Kayla Kaminsky knotted it at 3 with a double that scored pinch-runner Kristen Borsella.

Both sides went scoreless from that point until the top of the 12th inning. Kristina Lingo singled for her fourth hit of the game, advanced to second on a sacrifice, and moved to third on a passed ball before scoring on teammate Rae Ball's base hit. Despite a bunt single by Ray in the bottom half of the inning, Siena could not bring her around, and fell to 0-4 in league play.

The outcome resulted in a hard-luck loss for junior Amanda Filippazzo, who pitched all twelve innings and struck out ten hitters. She threw well over 200 pitches, allowing just twelve hits over her dozen frames.

The Saints return to action at home on Sunday afternoon, as they host Rider in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
